Government Official Confirms Ministry of Defence Looking at Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Staff Told to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

A defense minister has revealed that the MoD is actively investigating the potential security risks associated with Chinese-made vehicles, while personnel have been advised to refrain from talking about secret matters in all cars.

Security Advice for Defence Personnel

In a recently aired interview on LBC, a defence minister commented on reports that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to discuss secret information while riding in China-made vehicles.

He stated that the ministry is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but emphasised that safety is a issue in every modern vehicles.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their car, to avoid having discussions at a secret level in any kind of vehicle, due to the increasing risks of eavesdropping that are present in every single vehicle, to restrict those secret talks in secure locations. This is a wise and reasonable thing for anyone worried about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to stop using all cars from China, Pollard responded: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Wider Defence Background

The announcement comes as claims from Norway and Denmark have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could allow China to disable public transport and cause disruption to public transit.

Additionally, a Russia spy ship was reportedly directing laser beams at RAF aircrew, described as a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

The broader security situation underscores the importance of robust measures and caution in every aspects of official operations, including vehicle usage to discussions practices.
