Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Spurs prolonged their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the first half to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were unable to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - nodded in a final goal to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien believed he had levelled the tally five minutes after the defender's opener, directing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of fine stops to ensure the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, advising the match official to review the goal on the pitchside monitor and the official ruled that the winger and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory moves the manager's side into third place in the Premier League, five points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain 14th and are six points clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven excels in role at both ends of the field

After a uninspiring weekday performance in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a only two shots on target, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The new arrival was unable to influence the game before being substituted for Richarlison after an hour on the field, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Defender Van de Ven converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's first goal came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with the midfielder directing the ball back across the face of goal for an free the defender to score.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as skipper in Cristian Romero's absence - added his second in first-half stoppage time as he rose above Jordan Pickford to nod in.

The Dutchman was just as impressive in defensive duties, combining well with his defensive colleague as the pair handled superbly with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Toffees missing striker's instinct

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have faded somewhat and fans headed to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a major concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

The forward and the other striker - the Toffees' pair of recognised strikers - had netted just a single goal between them before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to add to that poor tally on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having space and time to readjust for a more conventional shot that would have tested the keeper.

The substitute, as well, failed to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the 65th minute.

It was not for a lack of chance. Most of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who tirelessly whipped dangerous crosses into the Spurs box.
